Caramel Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich (with Bacon!)

Yes, folks. It's National Grilled Cheese Month and to celebrate we are making this delicious concoction below. Although this may not be the healthiest choice, well, who cares... look at it!

I found this recipe on the Closet Cooking's Blog and knew instantly that this was the winner.

A crazy-awesome infusion of some of my favourite foods ever: Caramel Apples, Grilled Cheese and... wait for it... BACON
Sweet and savoury, try this and you may just have found something so sinfully good that you will want to indulge in this over and over again.
It's so bad, it's good.

Caramel Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich (with Bacon)

Tart apples in a bed of melted cheddar cheese and sweet caramel sauce along with salty bacon all wrapped up in warm buttery and toasty bread. (Homer Simpson drool)

Servings: 1
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices cheddar (or 1/2 cup shredded)
  • 1/2 apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce
  • 2 strips bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces and cooked (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat.
  2. Butter the outside side of each slice of bread, place one slice in the pan buttered side down, top with half of the cheese, the apple, caramel sauce, bacon, the remaining cheese and finally the other slice of bread.
  3. Grill until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted, about 2-4 minutes per side.

Option: If you prefer the apples to be tender, and they stay in the sandwich better that way, saute them in a touch of oil or bacon grease until just tender, about 1-2 minutes per side, before adding them to the sandwich.

Option: Serve with extra caramel sauce for dipping along with a few apple slices.

Apple Cider Float

To commemorate the upcoming Fall season, I wanted to share one of my absolute favorite frozen treats – Apple Cider Floats (which I found from The Fresh Fridge).
This float is a nice reminder that Fall will is on it's wat – along with beautiful leaves, pumpkin patches, and trips to the cider mill.
It has a touch of sour green apple balanced by the creamy, sweet vanilla ice cream and a dash of cinnamon. The cider and ginger ale tastes great served with an apple slice – these are super fun treats to share.
With a tiny apple slice, these were actually pretty fun to make miniaturized as a quick snack (or sweet tooth craving!).
Enjoy!
