Peppermint Ice Cream Bonbons

These 'cool' desserts would be such a dainty treat for all your Holiday Party Guests and the thing I love about them most is that they are so easy to make!
And all the ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen.
Try them for your upcoming holiday party! A definite crowd-pleaser!

Time: 40 minutes, plus about 6 hours to freeze.
Bakers' Tip: When you dip the ice cream balls in chocolate, make sure you coat some of the skewer too—this keeps the ice cream from sliding off as it melts.
Serves 8 to 10

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 8 ounces white chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies

Preparation
1. In a small bowl, stir together ice cream and extract until blended. Freeze until firm, at least 2 hours. Meanwhile, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and freeze alongside.

2. Using a large melon baller, quickly scoop all the ice cream into balls and place them on one side of the cold baking sheet. Freeze until firm, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

3. Insert a decorative skewer or pick into the center of each ice cream ball and return to freezer to set, about 30 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, put chopped chocolate and shortening into a small metal bowl. Set bowl in a slightly larger bowl of hot water and let sit until melted, stirring occasionally. Transfer chocolate mixture to a 1-cup glass measuring cup. Put crushed candies on a small plate.

5. Working with 1 ice cream ball at a time, dip into melted chocolate to coat, making sure chocolate reaches above ice cream onto the skewer and letting excess chocolate drip off bottom. Roll ball in candy and set on the clean side of the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining balls, returning them to the freezer if they start to soften. Freeze at least 2 hours before serving.

Bonbon Variations: Experiment with other flavors of ice cream, such as coconut or chocolate, and coatings, such as flaked coconut or dark chocolate.

Red & 'Chocolate' Sweets Table

As I previously posted in a recent blog regarding a yummy idea for an aqua and blue sweets table, here I found another beautiful idea for a lucky bride-to-be's bridal shower (or even a chic birthday gathering with the girls).

Details:
- Print the labels provided(free) by Creature Comforts.
- backdrop fabric was bought at Walmart (it's actually a fabric shower curtain)!
- Put your "milk bottles" to work, filled with chocolate milk.
*A great idea are those adorable Starbuck Frappuccino Bottles*
- Stock up on favor boxes(that are frequently on sale) at Michaels.
- Scrapbook papers from Michaels were also used to wrap Hershey's Miniatures, and the favor boxes.
- Red straws from Ikea.
- A little Bling adhesive gems added to labels and wrappers.

(Not) Food For Thought

I love the idea of making treats that look like other foods; here are a few fun ideas to try for your next kid's (and kids at heart) shindig.

A tasty plethora of goodies from FamilyFun; Chicken Not-Pie, sweet sushi, fried egg sundae, faux french fries, and pizza cake.

A Baked Creation's clever candy kabob. For a friend's son's past birthday, I was inspired by FamilyFun to help make Krabby Patty hamburger cupcake toppers. How in love are you with Smiley's Sweets and Creations popcorn cupcakes?

Winter Wonderland Dessert Buffet

I stumbled across this lovely idea on http://www.inspiredbride.net/ and was just drawn to the whimsical beauty and simplicity of it.
This would be such a lovely idea for a Winter Wedding or even any themed event.

The Aqua Blue and White Colour Palette are a perfect medley, don't you think?

The centrepiece is such a stunning vision and very easy to create:

Something about unlimited candy makes my "inner child" very happy as I'm sure your guests will agree!
I found the DIY labels in front of each treat to be a nice touch.
The vases are not that difficult to find and you can mix and match sizes to give it a nice unique look. Take a trip to your local Arts & Crafts store, Department Store or even the Dollar Store, you'll be surprised what you find.
Once those treats go in 'em - total eye candy, literally!
Bulk Barn or your local Candy Shop should cover all those delicious delicacies for you to pick and choose.

And those unique and super delicious marshmellow pops... YUM!
Try them out: http://www.inspiredbride.net/2009/10/26/do-it-yourself-project-marshmallow-pops/
I'm thinking this would be a nice new idea for our Bella's Bon Bon's Holiday Menu.
