Okay, well, maybe  it's not my main philosophy on life but it's one that I can wholeheartedly agree with. 

Ernestine Ulmer is a wise, wise woman. A woman after my own heart.  And one that I'm sure indulged in the finer things, aka dessert.

If you know me well, you know that I have a serious love for dessert.  I believe that a touch of sweetness is the perfect remedy for anything.

Early this spring, The Allan Candy Company introduced their latest innovative confection, Dessert Bites™.

For a mere $3.99 a bag, these soft and chewy bite-size candies combined with a creamy coating come in four dessert-inspired flavours that taste just like dessert: Strawberry Shortcake, Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and Apple Pie.

Conveniently packaged for on-the-go indulgence, Dessert Bites™ will soon be available at most grocery, mass merchandise and convenience stores in 200-gram resealable bags. Currently found at WalMart and Sobeys Ontario stores, Dessert Bites™ will land on shelves at Loblaws, Giant Tiger, London Drugs, and more in the near future.

I had the opportunity to try these tiny morsels of delight and see if it truly measures up to my expectations of true "Dessert-Flavoured" Candy.

I wasn't the only one excited to receive this adorably-packaged goodness...

The hubby even called and specifically asked us to wait until he gets home from work and we have dinner to begin the taxing and dreadful "reviewing process" of the Dessert Bites.

At first bite, I loved how chewy and soft it was but what caught me off guard was the taste of each dessert popping out in subtle layers.  

Have you watched Charlie & The Chocolate Factory? Do you remember the part when the little girl was testing their chew-able meals in gum form and pleasantly surprised at how each flavor (meal portion) exploded her taste buds after each chew? 

This was my exact experience with this.

For example having the Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Dessert Bites™ , I would first taste the chocolate, then the raspberry and then the cheesecake! It was really delicious.  Actually, this was probably my favourite flavour from all of them.  Strawberry Shortcake coming up as 2nd contender.

If you're a fan of Apple Pie and Key Lime Pie, you'll most likely really enjoy those flavours.

Yes, future development will consider other sizes

5. Are Dessert Bites peanut-free?

Unfortunately not, but most Allan Candy products including Big Foot® candy are.

14 pieces (41g) of Dessert Bites contains approximately 170 calories, 4.5g of fat, and 1g of protein.  

8. Will there be more Dessert Bite flavours? 

Yes. The product developers at Allan Candy are always looking to consumers and industry trends to expand the Dessert Bites line with more favourite dessert flavours.

9. Are Dessert Bites gluten free?

Although Dessert Bites are not produced with Wheat or Gluten, they are manufactured in a facility that is not wheat free, and therefore we must claim “May contain wheat” on our package.

10. Are Dessert Bites available outside of Canada?

Yes, Dessert Bites are available at select stores in the USA.
