Review & Giveaway: Life Choices Natural Foods

As a mother, one of the toughest things we are faced with is ensuring our children grow up with healthy eating habits. What we feed and introduce them to at a younger age is extremely beneficial in their future choices when it comes to their diet.
What makes it even harder is how picky they are!  Their food or snack of choice is almost always tipping towards the unhealthy scale. And speaking of scales, it's scary thinking what that would look like for them if we continue to offer our children the unhealthy variety.

I was contacted by Life Choices Natural Foods to try their product and offer a review and of course I welcomed it. I've seen their products in the grocers many times in the Organic and Natural Frozen Food Aisle, but we aren't usually "in" that aisle per se (seeing the picky eaters in my family) so unfortunately never had a chance to try it (which I've always wanted to).
So here we are!

Let me first start by saying how difficult it was to pick one product from their delicious line of products which include mac & cheese, pizza, pierogies, meatballs and more, but what caught my eye as the whole fish fillets.
My family doesn't eat much fish (unfortunately), so I thought I'd pick this up and give it a shot.
Not going to lie, I was a little apprehensive choosing the fish amongst the other choices, but I thought, if they actually do like this fish, they will definitely love the other products too!

Here is some more info about the Fish Fillets:

Our breaded fish fillets are made with whole fillets (not minced!) of Alaskan White fish Pollock, which is Wild Caught and from Certified Sustainable Fisheries. Our custom-made *Multigrain Coating; with flax, whole grains and oats, provides sources of Omega-3 fibre.

Ingredients:
Wild Caught Alaskan White Fish Pollock Fillets in a Coating of: Water, Whole Wheat Flour, Toasted Wheat Crumbs with Multigrain Blend (Wheat, Rye, Triticale, Barley, Yellow Corn, Millet, Soy and Flaxseed), Spices, Flaxmeal, Rolled Oats, High Monounsaturated Sunflower Seed Oil, Water, Canola Oil, Yellow Corn Flour, Corn Starch, Wheat Flour, Salt, Dextrose, Guar Gum.

Key Concept:
Balancing health and great taste, we have created our chicken strips, chicken nuggets and whole breaded fish fillets to give parents the option of buying a kids’ favourite that is tasty, nutritious and convenient. Source of Omega-3 from Flax – No Trans Fats – Prepared without frying – No additives or preservatives – Source of Fibre and Iron

The first thing I read that made me smile on the packaging was this little blurb about the founders of Life Choices Natural Foods:
“In 2002, soon after the birth of our first child, we created Life Choices Natural Foods and two lines of nutritious and convenient meals: organic pizzas and entrees. As our family grew, we realized a need for a better assortment of these nutritious and convenient products along with a need for more kid-friendly products.

The next was the fact that these breaded (I read breaded and usually roll my eyes) fish fillets were multigrain. Great!

What I loved was that they only took 20-23 minutes to make at 400 degrees celsius in the oven. That is pretty quick from frozen. As most mothers will know (especially with toddlers) is that time is not always on our side. We want something quick, and we want something good.

Check out the breading -- you can really see the grains!

After the fish fillets were ready, I poured a little tartar sauce as a dip and called in the hungry hounds.
Did I mention my hubby is just as picky as my toddler is?  When he found out prior to eating that it was fish fillets he was having and that it wasn't the "beer-battered" kind, he was a tad iffy.

They took their first bite, then their 2nd and surprise, surprise! My toddler daughter continued eating it! That was a huge relief and a pleasant surprise. This was her first time eating fish continuously and not spitting it out.
My hubby was also enjoying and actually was amazed to find out it was multigrain breading. He also mentioned, "Given the multigrain breading, it takes away the fishy after taste you usually get after having fish fillet." He brought some to work the next day as well. :) *happy dance* I, of course, loved it. I'm a big health nut and I just knew they were going to be delish and I was right! I can't wait to try their other products, especially the mac & cheese & meatballs!

Now the super fun stuff! A fabulous giveaway, perfect for back to school!

The Mac and Cheese for sure, it's my son's favorite meal and I hate processed box Mac n Cheese so often times I am making it myself.
